Hai Phong province to commence construction of nation's longest bridge
It will be the longest cross-sea bridge in Viet Nam.
The transport ministry said the bridge was believed to be a national key project connecting developing eastern areas of the city to Lach Huyen Port, Dinh Vu Industrial Park and the Ha Noi-Hai Phong Expressway, which is under construction.
The four-lane bridge will cut driving times, travel costs and traffic jam and accidents for vehicles travelling via Nam Trieu Canal.
Through a more convenient and fast transport network, the city's sectors of industry and tourism are expected to be more developed.
The move came after the Ministry of Transport signed on Tuesday a contract with Japan's Sumimoto Mitsui Construction Co Ltd and two Vietnamese contractors of Truong Son Construction Corporation; and Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No 4 to build the bridge.
The construction of bridge has been funded by Official Development Assistance from Japan worth over VND10 trillion (US$475 million) and counter-capital from the Vietnamese Government worth VND1.8 trillion ($84.6 million).
